Q: Is a post-2000 model Hyundai Elantra a reliable used car?
I am toying around with the idea of getting an inexpensive used car to replace my wife’s gawdawful 1993 Saturn. A friend of mine said that generally, the Hyundai Elantra is a good (read: reliable) car for the money. Is this true? Any other Hyundai models that are also reliable?

A: Most post-2000 model Hyundai’s are fairly good cars. They are reliable, economical, cheap to operate, and most parts are fairly inexpensive. Any used vehicle is only good as to how it was maintained and taken car of. If properly maintained and not abused most used cars will be a good investment. Ask for any and all records, plus have the vehicle you are interested in inspected by a qualified mechanic prior to purchasing the car. The pre-purchase inspection should be somewhere around $50.00 to $150.00. My Mercedes/BMW mechanic only charges me $40.00.

In 2004, Hyundai tied with Honda for initial brand quality in a survey/study from J.D. Power and Associates, for having 102 problems per 100 vehicles. This made Hyundai second in the industry, only behind Toyota, for initial vehicle quality. The company continued this tradition by placing third overall in J.D. Power’s 2006 Initial Quality Survey, behind only Porsche and Lexus. Hyundai/Kia Automotive Group is the world’s fourth largest automaker (second in Asia) in terms of units manufactured and sold per year and one of the Big Asian Four (with Toyota, Honda and Nissan).

In recent interviews with Toyota executives, they have expressed concerns about Hyundai-Kia and their market share. Hyundai-Kia is the only automobile manufacturer that Toyota fears – and that says something. Kia is also moving up sales rapidly, even quicker than Hyundai due to their improving quality and design (hired the head designer from Audi about two years ago). Hyundai-Kia is the fastest growing foreign brand in China and is the largest exporter of cars in India (Hyundai has plants in both countries). Hyundai-Kia was the only major automaker to sell more vehicles in 2009 than 2008.

Take a look at the link below for actual comments from Hyundai owners and what they think about their vehicles.

Q: does a Hyundai Elantra 2000 timing belt really need to be changed at 60,000 miles?
I have a Hyundai Elantra 2000 with 59K miles on it. It is running fine but the owners manual says that I should change the timing belt. Hyundai wants $650 for the timing belt so I went to a local Goodyear. They say that It will cost like $500 but when you throw in the suggested change of the water pump and new hoses and a coolent system flush it comes to over $1000 bucks. I trust this goodyear dealer they have done work for me before but my question is is it really worth it for a car worth about $3K? How long can I realistcly expect the timing belt, hoses and water pump to last?

A: it is recomended but long as you don’t drive it hard you may get up to 90 thousand miles with it be easy with it good luck

Q: What is a good website for things to put in my 2006 hyundai elantra?
i just got a 2006 Hyundai Elantra and i want to put some cool things inside. do you know any good websites for things like seat covers, floor mats, and anything else that would “pimp” my car haha

A: We do custom seat covers, floor mats, and dash covers for your 2006 Hyundai Elantra. Check out our website at www.seatcoversunlimited.com. Hope this helps.

Q: Are the 2002 Hyundai Elantra parts compatible with the 2000 model?
I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra(automatic) and i’m in need of parts(A/C parts, motor for power windows, bumper, hood). Could I use parts from the 2002 Hyundai Elantra(also automatic) for my 2000 model? Would they be compatible?

Thanks!

A: Call the Hyundai dealer and ask for parts department and ask them this question

Q: Is it possitble to install 2001 Honda Accord’s Stock CD Player into 2001 Hyundai Elantra?
I am thinking of buying a new in dash MP3 player for my dad’s car. He has a stock cassette player right now and I was wondering if it possible to take out the stock CD player from my 2001 Honda Accord and install it into my dad’s 2001 Hyundai Elantra. Also, where can I find more information about this with pictures.

A: if both have the same dimensions, you just need buy the wires conections, thats all.. dont forget give me points.. the knowledges is power

Q: How do i know if i had ABS in my hyundai Elantra?
I bought a hyundai elantra car but i don’t know if i had abs or not,,,
as the dealer told me that i don’t but its standard in my country that it comes with abs…
my question is how to know?

A: Open the hood. As you look at the engine, on your left side (right behind the passenger headlight) you will see like a black box that has 6 metal lines going into it and a big connector with a yellow clip around.

see this picture for location of the ABS module:

http://hysis.hyundaicanada.com/viewer/dispimg.asp?path=/data/Passenger/HY/HMA/ENG/SHOP-Images/HY-XD13-IMAGES-ENG/ejkd100a.gif

And this for design and look:

http://hysis.hyundaicanada.com/viewer/dispimg.asp?path=/data/Passenger/HY/HMA/ENG/SHOP-Images/HY-XD13-IMAGES-ENG/ejke200a.gif

Also, look in the engine compartment fuse box, turn the lid upside down to see fuse location diagram, locate the place for ABS fuse then, look ot that spot and see if you’ve got a fuse in place. If none of those are there, it means your car has no ABS system.

Another way of checking is to brake hard and see if the wheels are locking on the pavement or not. Should they lock (screech), you have no ABS. Should you feel pulsations in your brake pedal, means you have ABS.

I don’t know where you’re from but, another easy way to see is to look at your wheels. If the rim is metal, no ABS if the rim is alloy-yer ABS. This apply to Elantra model up to 06 production. Don’t quote me exactly on this last sentence because I don’t know where are you from and what year model you have.

Q: How reliable is a 2009 Hyundai Elantra?
How many miles do you think I can expect to put on it before it breaks down? I had a 2004 Hyundai Sonata and drove it for 150,000 miles without one single repair, but that was a 6 cylinder car. Do you think I can expect the same results with the 4 cylinder Elantra? We really need a new car that can make it 5 years and 160,000 miles without breaking down and is fairly inexpensive. The Honda Civic sounds better but it seems pricier. What do you think?

A: This was sent Monday, 6/22, to my wife from Hyundai NA and I truly believe it will answer your question…

HYUNDAI FINISHES FIRST IN JD POWERS INITIAL QUALITY SURVEY (non-luxury)

AHEAD OF TOYOTA! …… AHEAD OF HONDA! …….AHEAD OF NISSAN!

AHEAD OF ALL OTHER NON LUXURY or PREMIUM MANUFACTURERS

This is Great News!!! See Below!

FROM THE DESK OF JOHN (Last name removed)…

Hyundai has once again accomplished an outstanding quality achievement, with the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey (IQS3) naming Hyundai the Number One Non-Premium auto maker for quality. We finished ahead of Toyota, Honda and Nissan, first among non-premium nameplates and fourth overall behind only Lexus, Porsche and Cadillac.

*Hyundai #1 Non-Premium Nameplate, beating Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and all the rest of our competition

*Hyundai #4 in Industry, behind only Lexus, Porsche, and Cadillac

*Genesis #1 “All New/Re-Designed Model,” and ties the Lexus brand

*Elantra #1 in the Compact Car Segment, beating Prius, Civic, and Corolla

*Elantra is also a “Top 10 Industry Leading Model” (out of 245 models)

*Accent #2 in the Sub-Compact Car Segment, (missing #1 by just one point)

This is the second time in four years that Hyundai has beaten all other non-premium nameplates. We’re planning a very aggressive public relations and marketing program to get this powerful quality message out to consumers and drive new Hyundai customers to our showrooms.

So, with all that said don’t believe the naysayers who still think Hyundai is a 2nd class auto.

A: There is no screw around the ashtray area. see these pictures and follow instruction to remove the center fascia.

Q: Why does the automatic transmission seem jerky in my 2005 Hyundai Elantra?
I just acquired (as a gift) a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. This is my second day driving this car. It has 53,000 miles on it. The auto transmission seems a little jerky in comparison with my 2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS which has 178,000 miles on it.

Does it just “seem” this way because the Hyundai handles differently than a Chevy? (It’s been to the mechanics at the dealership for a second opinion and they gave it a clean bill of health).

A: i used to work at a dealership that sold Hyundai’s and I can tell you that they are the biggest piece;s of crap that ever has been an excuse for a car. I’d rather walk ot ride my bike somewhere..

try to sell it and purchase a real car.. or get your chevy back.. I’m driving a 2002 f150 super crew with 110,000 on it and i still have zero problems..

Q: do the 2001 hyundai elantra and tibiron have the same engine?
i have a hyundai elantra and want to know if the interchangeable because i want ot get a little prefomace under the hood

A: Same engine also same HP and torque specs you want a little more performance out of your car,try replacing the throttle body, and opening up the exhaust system to get more free flow but not to much otherwise you will decrease that precious back pressure.

Q: Can I plug my Ipod into a 2000 Hyundai Elantra?
I will be getting a 2000 Hyundai Elantra soon, and Im wondering if I can plug my Ipod into it. Obviously it doesnt have a AUX input, and only plays cassettes. What can I do?

Thank you.

A: ^^

Q: does anyone know the kelley blue book value of a 2000 hyundai elantra?
Just wondering does anybody know the blue book value of a 2000 hyundai elantra that is in decent condition nothing wrong with never been in any accidents?

A: http://www.kbb.com

Q: does a hyundai elantra engine fits in a hyundai accent car?
i would like to find out if the hyundai elantra engine fits in a hyundai accent and also if this upgrade will need any additional mods.

also if there is any perfomance exhaust system for the accent available.

A: I guess you could do it, you may need to exchange the transmission too though. At any rate, its not worth the effort as theirs not much upgrade from the Accent to Elantra engine. You are better off buying a better car instead of wasting alot of money on swapping engines and performance parts on a bargain bin commuter. If you need more details, call a mechanic and see what he thinks and how much it would cost. Dude, just buy a Mazdaspeed 3 263HP 2 litter turbo for about $23K new, can’t beat it.

Q: Is a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT a good car?
I found a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT with 89,876 miles on it for about $5000. I already know it’s a good deal for that price, amount of miles, and age but I just want to know if it’s a good car.

A: The price sounds a little high but I would have to say it’s a very good car. I have over 140,000 miles on my 2001 GT with no major problems. But just like with any car try to get as much info about it as possible, see if all recalls have been taken care of, run a car fax and take it for a good test drive. If you can; see if a tech can look at it for you.
Keep in mind the Elantras use timing belts instead chains so it should have been replaced around the 60k mark and the tranny uses SP-3 fluid. Nearly anything else could ruin it and that should’ve been changed every 30k. Other things to look out for are the thermostat and water pump.

Q: How reliable is a 2007 or 2008 Hyundai Elantra GLS/SE Sedan?
I was looking at a 2007 or 2008 Hyundai Elantra and don’t quite know the reliability. I know the old Hyundai vehicles aren’t the best, but have the new ones improved quality and reliability?

A: In 2003, According to Consumer Reports, Hyundai’s reliability rankings tied Hondas.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-03-11-cr-picks_x.htm

In 2006 JD Power and associates quality ranking, overall the Hyundai brand ranked 3rd, just behind Porsche and Lexus, and beating long time rival Toyota.

http://www.autospectator.com/cars/hyundai/0024213-hyundai-highest-ranked-non-premium-nameplate-jd-power-and-associates-initial-quality

The Hyundai Elantra is listed as United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Picks Ten Most Fuel Efficient Vehicles. The Elantra ranked #2 in 2006 and 2007 in the category of most fuel efficient sedans, and also was ranked as the most efficient non-hybrid mid-sized sedan.

http://marketplace.nwsource.com/nwc/autos/research/fuel_economy/fuel_efficent_sedans.html

Hyundai Elantra earned Consumer Reports’ ‘excellent’ rating in predicted reliability. Hyundai Elantra SE is Consumer Reports top-ranked 2008 vehicle amongst 19 other compacts and subcompacts, beating out such high-quality competitors as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
