Q: If I bought a 2001 Toyota Rav4 Used & want the key remote?
How do I find out first of all if the 2001 Toyota Rav4 originally came with a remote key (a clicker for lock & unlock) and second of all where can I get a replacement remote key? Thanks!
A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net
Q: What is really important to do in the 15000-mi service appt for a Toyota Rav4?
My 2005 Toyota Rav4 (4WD) is due for a 15,000-mi service. But, the dealership charges $199 for it! I understand the oil change, tire rotation, and checking the air filter/brake pads are important. How important is it to re-torque the drive shaft bolt? What does that even mean?
Here are the other recommended things to inspect:
~ Ball joints and dust covers
~ Brake lines and hoses
~ Drive shaft boots
~ Engine coolant 5
~ Exhaust pipes and mountings
~ Radiator core and condenser
~ Rear differential oil
~ Steering gear box
~ Steering linkage and boots
~ Transfer case oil
I do about 60% city driving with about 40% highway driving in an urban environment with light-medium traffic. I haven’t driven off-road yet.
A: I would change oil and filter, check and replace air cleaner if necessary, check the fulid levels and maybe rotate the tires. Engine coolant should be changed on a 24 month cycle. Also check the wiper blades.
Q: Why does my 1997 toyota rav4 turns off while i drive?
My rav4 turns off when i’m driving. After a while my rav4 turns off ,then i give it a couple of cranks and it will turn back on. I replace the fuel pump and strainer, and fuel filter. It’s a 1997 toyota rav4 2.0L 4 cylinders 2wd.
does anyone have any idea? thank you
A: not sure about rav4 1997, but i heard toyota had recalls of several models sold from 1995 to 2000 recently, i dont remember well, but i think it was for noah, because of engine problems. my friend got information about recall via mail, and changed the car, but it was not official recall. it can be really dangerous if a car stops while drivin, so i would contafct official distributor to find out if there’s sth wrong with this particular model.
Q: What are Toyota RAV4’s like to drive and keep?
Question is in the title really.
Im 24 and always promised to buy myself a Toyota RAV4 when I turn 25. I love them.
In general though; are they comfy, practical, reliable??? I would like to hear your thoughts.
A: I bought one in 1999, and drove it cross country full of my cats. It is a great little “wanna be” truck, good mileage, very responsive, (back seats a little cramped for adult legs) and have had no major repairs in the last 11 years. It now belongs to an ex who bought it from me 5 years ago. If anything it is not great on ice (but what is) and the wind has a tendency to noticeably push it.
Personally I am not fond of the more rounded larger look Toyota came out with, I looked at one before I bought my 2009 Scion it was too big for my tastes/needs.
Q: What are the Toyota RAV4 cloth seats like?
If you have a 2002-2005 model Toyota RAV4 with cloth seats, are they the velour kind or the tweed-ish kind that you can have scotchguarded? Thanks!
A: The one I drove(‘04) had the “tweed-ish” kind both kinds can be Scotchguarded® But I would choose a protectant with less of an odor.
Q: what are the symtoms of having a faulty oxygen sensor for a toyota rav4(2001)?
I’ve just bought a used toyota RAV4 recently. The time I test drive the car was very smooth and engine is very quite. For the past days, I notice specially when the engine is cold and when you start, the idle is to high and it take time before it goes to a normal state. I was thinking if its the oxygen sensor? spark plug? high tension wire or improper timing?
A: Brandon, what does the temp gauge do? If it lags in the cold area for a long time or never gets up to about half way the thermostat could be sticking open. If it sticks open the engine will not reach normal operating temp, or at least will take a long time to do so. The computer will see the low temp and keep the idle up higher than normal. I’d suggest having someone check the engine actual temp against what the computer is seeing, too. That way you will know if the problem is “real” (thermostat?) or not (coolant temp sensor?) But it needs to be done by someone with experience with that type of situation, or you will end up spending money you didn’t need to!
Hope this helps. God Bless!
Q: How soon do brakes and tires need to be replaced on a Toyota RAV4?
My 2006 RAV4 needed brakes and new tires after only 2 years with approx. 25,000 miles. Is this normal? I know that it depends on your driving habits but I’ve never needed these things done on any other vehicle I have owned.
A: you done good on mileage you really cant use mileage as a factor in some cases ,because some people have to use the brakes more than others do,so you cant always go by the amount of miles on a car,go by the amount that you have to use the brakes,25 thousand is good for a set of brakes though on any car, good luck.
Q: Can someone who owns a 2007 Toyota RAV4 tell me the pros and cons of owning one?
We test drove one and really liked it, but have been hearing a lot of things about the engine noise on freeways. Can someone who owns one, tell us the pros and cons of a RAV4?
A: I traded in a 1999 4Runner and a 2005 Corolla on a 2007 RAV4 about a month ago. I bought the 4 Cylinder Sport. I have heard no engine noise at all, in fact it has been a great little SUV. I’m not sure if you are looking at the base model, sport or limited, but I would recommend the Sport but in a V6 instead of the 4 cylinder I bought. You will get better power, and the gas mileage is not too different than the 4 cylinder. I had to buy a 4 cylinder in order to make an even exchange for my trades.
Generally speaking….
THE PROS:
-Can move the rear seat back further to make more room in the backseat.
-Comfortable seats
-6 CD changer nice amenity
-Dash set up nicely
-Lots of trunk space
-Very smooth ride, smooth shifting automatic transmission
-Gas mileage comparable to a car but SUV performance
-4WD performs awesome!
-Price is very good for the quality you get!
CONS:
-It is a small SUV, therefore if you haul lots of kids, pets, etc. it may be worthwhile to pass over the RAV or even Highlander for a 4Runner.
-Doesn’t have 4WD in high and low
-As mentioned before, 4 cylinders lack power at critical points, like merging onto freeways, etc.
Overall, I’d pick a Toyota over any of its competitors. Hope my two cents helped!
Q: Does the 1998 Toyota Rav4 4×4 transfercase come with a 4 low?
Does the 1998 Toyota Rav4 4×4 transfercase come with a 4 low? If so what ratio is it?
glendawr what does have a 4low in the small suv class? I’m after GREAT MPG not just good. 20+!!
A: The RAV4 is not a true 4×4 – the answer to your question is no. Very few of this class of SUV have a low range.
Q: How do I replace the reverse light on my 04 Toyota Rav4?
I noticed recently that my Rav4 has a reverse light out. I can’t figure out how to access the light to replace it does anyone have a clue?
I noticed recently that my Rav4 has a reverse light out. I can’t figure out how to access the light to replace it does anyone have a clue?
Edit: I’ve looked at the panels in the back on the inside. I can only reach the lights for one side that way. The other side has no screws or anything to remove the cover.
A: in the boot there should be a section of the plastic u can take off to access the bulbs(u may need to take anouther panel insite that) then fing out which is brocken(test) and replace it.
OR there may be some screws on the outside of the car to take off the red plastic to acces the screws one of them anyway
Q: Is a 98 Toyota Rav4 good in snow?
I’m thinking about buying a 1998 Toyota Rav4 2 wheel drive (front wheel drive). Are these good in snow?
And, will it say 4×4 anywhere on the exterior if it is 4 wheel drive?
10 points today to the person with the best answer!
A: My honest opinion is that front-wheel drive is perfectly capable of getting you through light snow (3-4 inches or less). Your 2WD RAV4 is a bit on the light side at around 2700 lbs., which doesn’t help it in deeper snow with 2WD. 4WD only adds power to the back wheels; it doesn’t necessarily guarantee you more traction in deep snow. In the end, there really is no benefit in having 4 wheels spinning without traction instead of only 2 wheels spinning without traction. My aunt has a 1997 RAV4 with 318,000 trouble-free miles on it, and she drove on gravel roads with deep ruts, and in winter, she had to navigate through whatever snowfall came that day. Sometimes she had to park her car at the top of the road because she didn’t feel confident she’d get through the deep snow with her RAV4. I don’t think you will go wrong by purchasing this 98 RAV4 with 2WD.
Q: Is the Toyota Rav4 considered a vehicle just for women?
I don’t mean any offence BTW. I’ve just noticed that a lot of younger women drive Rav4’s around my area. I’m in the market for a new vehicle that’s good on gas, but I’m not really a fan of cars since they sit so low and aren’t as safe as trucks and SUV’s. I’m 6′5″ so leg room is a big must. Would a Rav4 be too small for me?
A: It has become a chic vehicle lately. The new VW Bug did too.
Q: Question about starting problem on Toyota Rav4 5-Speed?
I have a 2002 Toyota Rav4 5-Speed, recently when I start it, the ignition just clicks, and I have to press gas pedal down then it will start. If I shut car off, it will restart with no problems, but if car has been sitting for a bit, the starting difficulty returns. Is this a battery problem? or starter?
A: Pressing down on the gas pedal is not doing anything if it just clicks when trying to start (coincidence maybe). If it makes a loud single “click” when trying to start-it needs a starter (built in solenoid). If it makes a series of fast clicks-test your battery (and check for excessive corossion on cable ends).
Q: How much can I get for my Toyota Rav4?
I am selling my 2005 basic 2WD Rav4, with 29,000 miles on the clock. One owner, clean carfax history. It’s also automatic.
How much do you think I can get for?
A: Kelly Wholesale is $16975 and Retail is $20600. U decide from there what’s fair.
