Q: Another Engine for a 1977 or 1978 Trans Am?
I was just wondering, what other engines could I easily, or moderately, fit into a 1977 or 1978 Trans Am…. Basically for gas saving reasons, but yet driving an awesome car.
A: Any GM engine ever built is a fairly simple swap, that any person with moderate mechanical skills could perform. The 70’s f-bodies used engines from every division of GM except Cadillac. They used I-6, V-6, and V-8 configurations, so the engine bay will fit anything you can find.
If you want to get significantly more gas mileage, I think you’d have to use something much more modern. The old six cylinders in the 70’s did not really get good mileage.
Q: What size engine in CI was Smokey and the Bandit’s Trans Am?
I believe it was a 6.6L?
A: Pontiac never made a 6.6 liter V-8 motor, even if the Wikipedia Encyclopedia said they did! If you figure that every liter equals 61 cubic inches, a 6.6 liter motor would have to be 402.6 cubic inches. Since the movie was made in 1977, it could have been a 400 Pontiac or a 403 Oldsmobile motor. If you read the trivia listing about the movie, a Chevrolet engine was installed for the famous bridge jump. Being a much lighter motor than the original Pontiac Tin Indians, that fact would seem reasonable.
The Chevrolet 400 small block was never used in Pontiac Trans Am.
Q: How much is a 10th year anniversary 79 trans am worth?
How much is a 10th year anniversary 79 trans am worth ?
A: Depends on the condition,if i sold mine i’d get alot, but mines mint with alot of hop up parts.
Q: How do I tell my father about putting a small ding in his black and gold trans am?
The car is a black & gold 1978 trans am. An object fell against it and made a noticeable ding in the side. What do i tell my dad? I’m an adult but don’t know what to say or how to say it since he is prone to becoming angry.
A: Maybe you should try to have a body-shop come to your house or take the car to them. I am sure they could fix it with no problem. Unless you can’t do this without your father knowing, tell him, let him know it was an accident, but by all means, do not try to down play it like it’s no big deal. To him, it will be then.
Q: what should I do, I am trans gender and i have a girlfriend what do I Do?
I have a girlfriend and I am trans gender(hate yahoo spell check) and I have yet to come out because of my girlfriend, I don’t want to break her heart. But it’s eating away at my sanity what should I do?
A: well, so far i agree with most of all that’s been said. eventually you are going to have to face up to it and decide what you are going to do. the longer you put it off, maybe hoping you’ll change…if you are “transsexual”, and not transgender, the worse things are likely to get. i also agree with those who have said that it is almost unconscionable that you are keeping your girlfriend in the dark about this. if you care anything at all about her as a person you need to make her aware of it right away….she has the right to make her own choices about how she wants to handle the relationship…based on truth, not on your deceit.
i disagree with the one who says the only options are transition or suicide. i think that’s a gross generalization based on one person’s attitude. i am transsexual myself and am more than just a little empathetic to the plight, but people are different, some can “take it”, some can’t.
what i’m trying to say is this: if you find yourself in a position where you feel you cannot transition, for whatever reason, you should not assume that suicide is your only other option. transsexuals have lived and not transitioned for thousands of years. it’s only in recent history that physical transition has even been possible for any of us. most of us lived out our lives anyway. i agree that we will probably never live the perfectly happy and contented lives that transition offers, but we CAN live without transition.
please, never assume….that wherever you are in your life’s journey…if transition isn’t available to you now…and you might even feel hopeless for the future…that you owe it to yourself or anyone else to commit suicide. it is NOT TRUE that transition or death are your only options. those who profess that are speaking for themselves only and are doing a gross dis-ser vice to everybody else.
much love and HOPE. pj
Q: What car should i get 3rd gen trans am or 1995 grand prix?
I am looking to get a car, there is a red 1995 grand prix for $1800 down the road from me, i was also looking at a 3rd generation trans am, maybe white or maroon and that will cost me probably $2500 for one in the same shape. The grand prix has rips in the seat, rub mark in the front bumper.
A: You’ll need to ask yourself a number of questions:
* What is your intended use?
* Do you need a vehicle that is good in the snow?
* Do you need a 2 door or a 4 door (assuming the GP is not a 2 door)?
* Are you looking for a daily driver or a project car?
* Is fuel economy a concern?
From the price point, it sounds like both may need some minor work. Are the repairs something you can do on your own?
We can’t answer these for you, but good luck on your decision.
Q: How can you tell if a 98-02 trans am is a ws6 trans am?
I know some people put the ws6 wheels an hood on theirs an say they have a ws6 trans am forsale. So how can I really tell if it a ws6 trans am or not?
A: check the drivers codes it has to say ws6 somewhere there..
Q: Would you recommend a Pontiac trans am as a first car?
I am not sure if I would like to get a 90’s- to 02 trans am and i am not sure if they are reliable buying them used. I would really like having a V8 engine rather a V6
are they good first cars, and are easy to drive?
How about the older generations is it a good daily driver?
A: The Trans Am cars were always among the best of GM’s offerings. The late fourth generation cars (1998 to 2002) with the WS6 package were really spectacular. A slightly de-tuned Corvette LS1 engine, which could be tuned to outrun a stock C5 or earlier Corvette (unless you run into a Z06 from 2001 and later).
The downside to the F-body in the fourth generation is that it is extremely difficult to service. Most of the work has to be done from under the car. The engine sits about halfway under the dash, so changing spark plugs is best done under the car. You pretty much need to remove the engine from under the car, rather than out the top.
I drive a C5 Corvette, so really like the GM cars with the LS1 engine. They get good gas mileage for what they are, and seem to be a long-lived engine. But the maintenance on the F-body cars was one of the reasons they were dropped from production, while the Mustang remained. (Full disclosure – I also drive a 1969 Shelby.) The Mustang is an easier car to maintain – thus the tuners like them.
In terms of ease to drive, if you’re a good driver, with a lot of experience with high power, they’re good. If you’re a relative novice, you can hurt yourself badly. There is a load of power, and not all the sophisticated electronics found in the C5 Corvette. They have an affinity for trees, telephone poles, guard rails, and swapping ends. Not a defect – just a demanding car.
I also have a 1984 WS6 Trans Am. It’s a great car, and not too over-powered (okay, by today’s standards, an Acura is more of a muscle car). It isn’t as hard to work on, and has run really well, but parts are getting hard to find. That’s the third generation.
A good daily driver? With gas having hit nearly $5.00 per gallon in the recent past, I’d have to say no, unless you’re really in the chips. A recent Pontiac Grand Prix has about the same power as the 1984 WS6 Trans Am, gets good mileage, and parts are available. My son has the WS6 staked out, but drives an old Swedish car (Saab) that gets about 30 MPG on a daily basis. He’s an auto technician, so an old, funky car doesn’t bother him too badly.
But if you can only afford one car, don’t get a high powered big engined one. I did that when I was 20 (the Shelby, way back when Richard Nixon was president). I survived, and only spun it into a ditch once, but even then, the gas and maintenance kept me broke. And I had a good job – the equivalent of $24 per hour today – as a professional driver.
Q: How can I tell the difference between a 92 firebird and 92 firebird/trans am?
What are some differences on the car so that I can tell if it is a firebird or firebird trans am. the owners manual is lost and most of the words on the car have come off or where taken off by previous owners.
A: You could look at the title.
That would tell you what model it is
Does the car have ground effects? Only difference between a Formula and a Formula Trans am is the T/A has ground effects.
What engine is in the car?
there are a wide variety of firebirds and it would take way to long to list the difference between all of them.
Q: What website should I go on to buy a used trans am ws6?
I was thinking about buying a used red & black trans am ws6. I was wondering what website should I check out?
A: craigslist is a great local classifieds listing site. that’s where i bought mine and have found all my cars. autotrader and cars.com are great sites that let you narrow down your search and more large dealers use these types of sites. good luck!
Q: What kind of supercharger should I get for my 2001 WS6 Trans Am?
I have a 2001 WS6 Trans Am with 17,000 miles…I’m really looking into adding a supercharger and heard procharger is the best…What else will I need to replace if I get the procharger installed? I’m assuming injectors and fuel pump…Anything else to make the procharger work best?
A: Prochargers are great power adders! You’ll need to program you’re processor for sure.Pump and injectors, of course. And your intake and exhaust systems will have to be upgraded accordingly. Contact the guys at Procharger and they can give you all the necessary instruction you’ll need. This upgrade has been done 100 times. All the info you need, you can get right from those guys.Hammer down!!
Q: What deep exhaust would sound best on V8 Firebird Trans Am Flowmaster or Magnaflow?
I am looking for either just a muffler or catback. I want something that just sounds nice and deep like a GTO. I dont want anything too loud or sound like cams.
I only want it to be heard when i really lay on it NOT idling.
I have a 1998 Trans Am Firebird
Any places that do a good job installing and buying from? Maybe Meineke, Midus, or Car X?
A: Do Flowmaster American Thunder series.
Q: Ok so where could i find a decal for a 1981 trans am turbo?
I’ve been helping my friend with his trans am, and the last piece we need is the Phoenix decal. He has a 1981 fire bird trans am turbo, where could i find this decal at? The decal is the one with the Phoenix looking to its left breathing out fire.
A: fbodywarehouse.com, call Pete and tell him jeff sent ya. He’ll get you what you need and probably cheaper and quicker than anyone else will.
Q: What is the top speed of a 1999 Pontiac firebird trans am?
I am looking for a car to buy and I want to know how fast a 1999 Pontiac trans am firebird goes. Its a 8 cylinder 5.0
A: If it’s stock 5.0 the top speed is about 130, but I believe you’re running a 5.7 which will do about 160mph
Q: What sheet metal thickness for trans am body repair?
Just curious what thickness sheet metal i should use. all my rust is on the rear fenders above the wheels. Its a 1981 Trans Am. I was thinkin 20 gauge but i dunno.
A: 20 would be ok. 18 might be a little better, as it will warp less when you weld it.
