Q: I have a 2002 F-150. This morning when I turned the ignition off and took the key out the theft light started ?
1I have a 2002 F-150. This morning when I turned the ignition off and took the key out the theft light started blinking and will not go off until I start the vehicle again. Anybody have any ideas what might be wrong? I called the dealer and they have no idea.

A: The theft light is a indication of your PATS system which is basically your key has a chip in it and without that key the truck will not start and cannot be hot wried. Its normal for it to flash if the key is out. If its blinking fast its usually a indication that the system doesn’t recognize the key it may have just been a fluke.

Q: What performance upgrade is the best for an F-150?
I have an 01 F-150 with a 5.4L V8 Triton engine and all other components stock. I’m looking to buy an upgrade that will give me more horsepower and better mileage, but my budget is limited. So what part would give me more horsepower around 300-500 dollars? I’m thinking an K&N air filter and a Airaid spacer would do pretty good, but is there anything else that would be better?

A: Skip the spacer, they are just a gimick.

Easy recipe-
1) K&N filter
2) aftermarket muffler (Flowmaster, SpinTech, Borla, etc.)
3) handheld tuner (SCT or Diablo), you can adjust settings in your trucks computer to get you better gas milage and more power

this all should keep you under $500 and produce a more powerful and gas saving truck over the stock form

Q: How do i smoke the tires on my 2005 F-150?
I have a 2005 F-150 Lariat 5.4L and every time i try to smoke the tires it just spins for a while then goes. Does my truck have enough power for this?

A: Yes, you do.

But primarily, you’re just doing it wrong.

And doing burnouts is qualified as a public disturbance, and is illegal.

Q: Which is the best programmer to tune my 2004 F-150 for better gas mileage?
The gas mileage on my mother’s 2004 F-150 (Lariat) is worst than having an old school Chevelle with an exhaust leak doing 120 mph on a 6 hour strecth of road. So I wanted to get an Hypertech or some other company’s programmer to improve the gas mileage.
The truck is just a regular V-8 engine.

A: if its a deaisel get an edge, I have a F-350 long bed and I get 17 miles to the gallon, and it gave me an extra 120 HP, total 450 HP I can smoke a mustang, and get 600 miles on a tank of gas.

Q: What do I need to do as far as the computer goes in my 91 f-150?
I need to know more information on the computer/ecm in a 91 Ford f-150. It had a non-HO 302 . I just put in a 351W and almost completed. What do I need to do as far as the computer goes?

A: You need to find out the EXACT date of manufacture, for the engine. The serial number will give you this info. Then, head to reliable bone yard, and have them look it up, in the computer. Chances are, they’ll even have one in stock.

Q: Why does my F-150 clunk when I reach the speed of 30MPH and grind in the front driver wheel ?
When i reach the speed of 30 MPH the truck makes thunk and grinding sounds , but when i slow down to a speed lower than 30 MPH the noises stop. (1986 Ford F-150 4X4)

A: I bet you have auto locking hubs. find a good 4×4 mech and have them check before you find yourself in a ditch or worse

Q: i have questions about welding an old f-150 cab. how hard is it to replace the floor boards?
i have an 1988 ford f-150 and tha floor boards are rotted out i would like to restore the cab( but if i cant i’l replace it) would it be easier to rivet or weld , or do i need to do both?

A: You could rivet, self-tap sheetmetal screw, weld, even glue (if it’s a small enough patch) the replacement pieces in.

If it’s a small enough area you could use a piece of sheet metal.

If it’s larger, or the entire floor boards, you could buy a replacement floor board, cut out what you need, cut out the bad section and attach the new piece.

Q: F-150 replaced abs electronic and hydraulic unit and harness now truck will not start. What could it be?
2002 Ford V-8 5.4. Have checked wiring and computer.

A: No I would not think so. If you banged too hard you may have to reset the fuel cutoff switch.

Q: How can I install a new style radio into an old 79 F-150?
My F-150 has a radio mount with two holes on the left and right side. The new style car radios wont fit because they don’t screw into the holes on the left and right side. Is there a way I can install a new style radio? Or where can I find an old radio that would fit that has FM or a cassette player?

A: In almost every case, if you want to install a standard DIN CD player, it would require cutting out the dash to fit the new size. This is very commonly done when installing new radios into older vehicles, as long as you’re not trying to keep the vehicle in stock condition. Just about any car audio shop should be able to do this for you.

If you don’t want to cut the dash, you can get an “underdash” mounting kit that works exactly like it sounds. You may also need to re-wire your speakers; many old Fords used a chassis-grounded speaker wiring setup that’s not compatible with newer high-powered decks.

If you don’t care about the CD player, then you’ll need to search for a “shaft-mount” deck. There aren’t many new ones available any more; a shaft-mount design automatically excludes a built-in CD player, so if you want to play CD’s you’d need to find one that will work with a separate CD changer.

Q: Does a 1985 f-150 have fuses that i may replace in order to repair my speedometer and temperature meter?
I might already have an answer thanks to a previous question.
I believe what he said was that the cables were directly connected to the engine, yet aknowledging the fact that i do not know anything about automobiles, are there even any fuses?

A: Speedo, No. It runs by a cable attached to the transmission.
Temp meter, Yes. Locate fuse box. Your owners manual will have the location. Inspect and clean all fuses, replace as necessary.

Q: Where is the keypad code location on my 2007 f-150 supercrew?
Where is the keypad code location on my 07 f-150 and how reset it?

Q: How to get better fuel mileage in an 84 f-150?
i have an 84 ford f-150 302 2bbl and i was wondering how to get better gas mileage

A: Make sure engine operates at operating temperature, ignition timing is correct, vacuum advance on disturburtor is working, other than that, rear axle ratio would need to be changed

Q: What will cause a 95 f-150 to come out of gear while driving?
Its an automatic, is at the proper fluid level, and only does it sometimes.
it has less than 100K on it, and its not doing what I would call slipping, it seems to come out of gear, and then slams back in.

And chris I KNOW something’s wrong with it… Great advice “thears something wronge with it, trash it! Have you ever thought of doing something productive with your life?

A: how many miles are on it?. with high city mileage it could be worn bands or blocked fluid passages. If you take the oil pan off of transmission and there are allot of metal shavings in there that’s more that likely the problem.
