Q: How to replace Front disc rotors on 1977 Toyota Corolla?
I am having a little trouble taking off the front disc rotors on my 1977 Toyota Corolla. Does anyone have a clue?

A: Look at the rotor, there may be 2 flat top screws that you need to take off with a phillips head screwdriver. if not that, then make sure the caliper is all the way off and hit the rotor with a hammer. It will help knock it loose if its on too tight.

Q: What is the normal gas consumption of 1991 Toyota Corolla?
Our 1991 Toyota Corolla consumes 5 kms. per liter of gasoline, how can we improve the fuel efficiency for this car? The car is in good running condition. Thank you for your advice.

A: You Should be getting in the neighborhood of about 30 Miles per gallon. Or, About 7 Liters per 100 Km (City) and 5.6 Liters per 100 KM (highway).

There are many different ways to raise your fuel economy. You can make sure your tires are properly inflated, and i recently heard of something called a Hydrogen Assist Fuel Cell, which costs alot of money (about 1 to 2 thousand dollars) but, if it works correctly, it will raise your efficiency substantially. They tested the system on a Toyota Camry that originally got about 27 Miles per Gallon, and it now gets about 55-60 Miles Per Gallon. It depends on your amount of driving but, according to the stats, it would pay off. This does not mean that every car installed will see a 2x improvement in gas mileage. I am not sure if the system is out to the public yet.

Q: what type of tires are good for a toyota corolla?
I am trying to figure it out what type of tires to put to my 2004 toyota corolla. Anyone has an idea or a sugestion on what are some of the best tire. Thanks

A: Best ride – Michelin. They are a bit more expensive but when you drive it, you’ll feel the difference.

Q: Can someone give me a link to a Toyota Corolla service manual in PDF format. For a 95 Corolla?
I would like a 1995 Toyota Corolla service/repair manual in PDF format, can anyone give me a link please?

A: Go to www.autozone.com, there you will find access to the info you want.

Q: What are some after market recommendations for a 2006 Toyota Corolla Type S?
I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla with an extended warranty. I’m looking for some ways to make it more exciting to drive, but I don’t really know much about after market car modifications.

I’ve seen some people put in new mufflers and Air Filters, but not sure what these will do.

Please provide any suggestions you may have and please take note of your noob audience. Also, will any of these void my warranty?

Thanks!

A: The type s is nice and comes upgraded.
BUT, may I suggest these:
Very noticeable change in ride- drop it! Buy new coil springs and shocks (Tokico blues or Konicos). Also polyurethane sway bar links AND verify you have a rear sway bar. If not Get one! You will notice a great improvement in handling. Trust me. Want to do one better- Rims, go two steps up- see www.discounttire.com on how to properly go up in diameter w/o sacrificing the ride quality.
Also, contact unorthodox racing for underpulleys at www.unorthodoxracing.com. Best bang for the buck. I had them on my acura and she rev’d much nicer. It was a stick. If UR racing does not make them, try the site below, maybe AEM does.
Cold air intake kit- K&N. Platinum tipped spark plugs, thick wires- larger diameter, forget headers and a nice muffler will run you a few bucks.

See what you can dig up in your wallet and look here, I buy from these guys a lot: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_parts/performance_chip/toyota/corolla.html

MY best suggestion is join a toyota club forum and see what the people there use. They can give you recommendatiosn and advice on making mistakes they have made. I now own an Accord, dropped! and I’m part of 5 forums. It’s priceless and you make new friends. Also, when something goes wrong, they own the car too so someone their is likely to know what your problem is.

Q: When buying a car, like a Toyota Corolla, is there much of a difference between a 4 & 5 speed automatic trans?
I drive a 5 speed stick shift Kia Rio, cheapest import on the market, a 2001 model. It is time to buy a new car and I am considering a Toyota Corolla. I see a lot of 4 speed automatic transmissions. Is there much of a difference, when driving, between the 4 speed and the 5 speed automatic? Difference in performance?

A: I couldn’t tell you from first hand experience. But going from a stick to an automatic is going to be a little different feeling anyway. Your best bet is to get out and test drive them both and see how they feel to you, specifically.

I think the ‘09 Corollas have a 5 speed auto-stick option. I’m guessing that might give you a ‘best of both worlds’ feel. The 5-speed in general might give a smoother ride (less high RPM running between gears? guess it depends on the gear ratios and how much you like acceleration).

I have an ‘05 Corolla automatic (4 speed I think) and it feels just fine to me. I was coming from a Mazda 626 v6 automatic, so I did notice the lower power, but the lower body weight from the smaller engine seemed to make up for it a little for perceived ‘power’. It’s a great car.

One tip for you.. if there’s a Scion dealership near your local Toyota dealership… try talking to them. Around here, there happens to be a Scion dealership right next door to one of the major Toyota dealerships. Scion is the same company as Toyota, of course, but they’re non-commission. I was able to take a few test drives and hammer out the details without getting sales-slime on me or feeling pressured at all. The Scion guys got their commission and I got my Corolla hassle-free.

Good luck! I think you’ll enjoy the Corolla over the Kia big time!

Q: How do you change a headlight in a 1997 Toyota Corolla?
I’ve never been the car person in my family. My dad took care of the cars while I was living at home and my husband does not know a lot about cars. I had a headlight go out on my 97 Toyota Corolla and I think that I can change it myself if someone will be kind enough to talk me through the process.
Thanks!

A: it is actually a fairly easy process…pop the hood on the back of the light there should be about four screws pull the light out and replace the bulb that is all there is to it…you will need a philipps screw driver that is all

Q: How many miles do you have on your Toyota Corolla?
I have a 1997 Toyota Corolla that has 196,000 miles on it and it’s still going strong. How are other people’s Corollas?

A: Mi in-laws have a toyota corolla from 1980, it has more than 600,000 miles and it’s still running.

Q: How do I make the clock in my 08 Toyota Corolla stop blinking?
The colon between the numbers of the clock in my 08 Toyota Corolla will not stop blinking! I’ve read the manual cover to cover, but it hasn’t helped a bit. Please help me with this problem! Thanks!

A: That is counting the seconds and can’t be stopped.

Q: Can a 2006 Toyota Corolla tow a pair of sit down jetski’s or a 16′ aluminum fishing boat with small 10hp motor?
I want to get a little something to go cruise a lake. I would like to know if a Toyota Corolla can tow a small trailer with a small aluminum boat or a pair of jetski’s. I have seen them towing those little moving trailers that must be loaded down with a fair bit of weight. Let me know what you know.

Thanks!

A: YES, your 2006 corolla can tow up to 1,500 lbs, your trailer loaded with the jets skis or a 16′ alum boat we weight less than your tow limit.

hope this helps

Q: How much does a starter cost for a 2001 toyota corolla?
I just bought this car last week and now my starter is shot, it won’t come on. I thought it had something to do with my remote car starter but now I don’t think it’s the case. A friend checked my car and said that I need to buy another car starter, but he didn’t know the price for a toyota corolla starter.

A: starter can run you from 60 to 180 dollars but depending on your location there is places that can overhaul your own starter for about 50 dollars. at the dealer you may also buy electrical solenoid contacts wich is the most comon problem, call them and ask it does not hurt to check the price for repair parts if you live in los angeles call miller toyota at 310 559 3777

Q: How to find a pin code to unlock Toyota corolla car’s radio ?
I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla Ascent. Standard radio & CD player. It went into Security mode when I had car battery changed. Toyota services near me can’t give any number to unlock the audio system. If someone could help. Thanks

A: Provided you have the certificate of ownership (V5 logbook) of the vehicle the dealership should be able to help you as everything should be on computer.

You probably either had someone who didn’t know what they were doing or just neglected to tell you to bring in the actual V5.

Don’t try ringing and quoting the VIN (vehicle identification number) as most cars have these visible on the front – mine is on the passenger side of the windscreen – so anyone could quote that and claim to be the owner.

Q: Michelin tires on my 7 year old Toyota corolla show some dry cracks. How much longer can I drive?
On a recent inspection at a Toyota dealership, they told me that all my tires have cracks on them and its not safe to drive them anymore. They also showed me visible cracks near where the rubber meets the road. Now, I have driven my Corolla for a relatively short distance over the last 4 years. (I had bought it used with 12,000 miles on it and current mileage is 50,000). I am usually careful about my driving habits and wonder how much longer I can drive with those tires on without any major safety hazard. Any insights will be very helpful. Also, are there differences in quality of tires based on their brands? The dealership was trying to sell me Yokohama tires (apparently the best) for $55 each and installation charges extra. Thanks in advance for taking your time to read through the details and answering the question.

A: Aging is a hot issue in the tire industry and there is no concensus on how old a tire should be before you replace it. Some recommend after 6 years, others after 10 while others have no recommendation at all. Shallow cracking in your tires is normal age-related wear and tear and does not effect the performance of the tire. Deep cracking can be a problem. Your tires are the #1 piece of safety equipment on the vehicle. If its bad they should be replaced.

Q: Why does my 1999 Toyota Corolla blow white smoke from the tail pipe and now from under the hood?
I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla that originally stared blowing white smoke when the car was on for more than 30 minutes. Now it seems to be coming from underneath the hood. Could this be the engine? Someone told me it had to do with underneath the valve gasket cover being cleaned. I have also heard that its possible the engine is cracked. Toyotas are ususally good for 200,000 plus miles. Mine has only 160,000. Please tell me what the problem could be. Thanks

A: White smoke can and DOES come from coolant burn off in the oil due to a leaking or blown head gasket, cracked head etc.

Q: How to return a Toyota Corolla 09 when i’m still paying for it?
I am going back to my country next month. But i have been using this Corolla since last year and still paying for it. I think the best way is to return it to Toyota but what do you think guys? Please give me some advices.. Thanks.
I bought it using the loan from Toyota. If i sell it, the process will take like 2 months and i would be gone by then. If someone is interested and wants to pay me a little bit, when will he be able to pay me since the process would like 2 months. Please give me advice…

A: Well, if you “give it back” it will hurt your credit for 7 years and they could come after you for the deficiency balance.

Im not sure if credit reports are global or not.

Bottom line is if you give it back and owe more than its worth, you wont likely buy a car in the US and maybe anywhere at a decent interest rate for probably 5+ years.

It stays on your credit report for 7 years.
